Partisans

Partisans 1 - artwork by Gee Vaucher

Partisans are widely acknowledged as the godfathers of the new wave of British jazz. Since 1996 they have been thrilling audiences in the UK and Europe with their energetic performances of tightly knit themes and groove-based sound, bridging the gap between New York swing, European improv and UK jam band.

Co-led by Julian Siegel and Phil Robson, they are solid swinging band, honed over their years together, where the combination of each member’s influences feeds a genuine creative spark generating huge excitement and energy.

Partisans have worked with American greats, including Steve Swallow and Wayne Krantz (who wrote tracks for their 2005 and 2009 albums). They have played European and UK festivals including Appleby, Brecon, Coventry, Cheltenham, Manchester, Jyväskylä Finland, Haarlem Holland, London Jazz Festival and Berlin Jazz Festival, Banlieues Bleues Festival in Paris and at Jazzahead Bremen, and been recorded live for the BBC, Nordwestradio, Deutschland radio and WDR3 Germany.

“Partisans present some of the most refreshing music I’ve heard in a long while, uncompromising, very well written and very well played. It demands serious attention. I hear in these players a sense of common purpose and resolve, and a strong command of a dialect uniquely suited to this music. It’s heartening to hear music that looks to find its own particular place.” Steve Swallow
