Fenci’s Blues, Shtreiml’s third album, features the incomparable oud playing and beautiful tenor vocals of Ismail Fencioglu along with the uniquely creative harmonica playing of Jason Rosenblatt. With echoes of Istanbul and Kiev throughout, Shtreiml and Ismail shift from virtuosic original compositions to haunting folksongs and from traditional Turkish instrumentals to adaptations of Eastern-European Jewish folk melodies. This album is a must for any lover of new Middle-Eastern and/or Jewish music. Led by harmonica innovator Jason Rosenblatt, one of few people worldwide who can play diatonic harmonica (blues harp) chromatically, Shtreiml’s blues-rock infused set delivers a new look at centuries-old folk music. Along with Jason are Rachel Lemisch (trombone), Thierry Arsenault (drums), Adam Stotland (bass) and Michael Winograd (clarinet). An explosive band!
