When traditional Indian rythms meet popular Western instruments, an irresistible new sound is born. Galitcha invites audiences to experience a host of musical sensations, from love songs to lively dance tunes. Alternating between French and English, the performers explain the meaning of songs sung in Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi. Galitcha is composed of Kuljit Sodhi (lead vocals, percussion), Chris McLean (harmonium, guitar, dulcimer, vocals), Linsey Wellman (flute, alto and soprano sax) and Shawn Mativetsky (tabla, percussion). They recently completed a Mediterranean tour (Tunisia, south of France). Their new album Blé d’Inde (Festival) has been receiving solid acclaim and they are a festival programmer’s delight.

Galitcha, c’est l’energie de Kuljit Sodhi (member fondateur; voix, percussions), Chris McLean (harmonium, guitare, dulcimer, voix), Linsey Wellman (flute, saxophones soprano/alto, voix) et Shawn Mativetsky (tabla, percussions). Les chansons de Galitcha sont principalement interprétées en Punjabi, en urdu et en hindi, avec des commentaires en anglais/français selon le public. Avec des melodies rythmées qui invitent à la danse, des chansons d’amour vibrantes ou des transes percussives, les alchimistes de Galitcha emmènent le spectateur dans des sentiers musicaux inédits et enchanteurs. Leur style original fusionne les traditions de l’Inde avec les couleurs jazz et folk de l’Occident. Un délice!
