Jason Lang has been described by friends and critics alike as an extraordinary talented artist and musician. Son of Canadian folk music legend Penny Lang and the late renowned American folk singer Dave Van Ronk, Jason’s own music is rooted in the folk and pop traditions. He has written and recorded with Roch Voisine, Luba, had several top-ten and top-twenty Canadian country hits with Loggerhead recording artist Denise Murray, and has worked as a musician on gold, platinum, and diamond records. Before jumping out of the shadows and into the spotlight as a much saught after sideman, Jason toured extensively throughout Canada, Europe and the United States, with many of Canada’s best and well known artists, including Amanda Marshall, Roch Voisine, Luba, The McGarrigle Sisters, Isabelle Boulay, France D’Amour, Richard Séguin, Luce Dufault and Véronique DiCaire to name a few. Jason has also produced seven albums, was the recipient of 3 felix Awards and received Juno Award nomination.
Jason est décrit par ses amis et ses pairs comme un artiste dans l’âme doté d’un talent naturel. En effet, Jason est le fils de deux légendes de la scène musicale folk. Sa mère, première dame du folk, la Montréalaise Penny Lang, est undes principales icônes de ce genre musical, tant au Canada qu’ailleurs; et son père, l’artiste de renommée internationale Dave Van Ronk, était un personnage incontournable de la musique folk américaine. Fort de ses origines, Jason puise à la source même cette inspiration tellurique innée chez lui. Bien avant de faire le saut à l’avant-scène, son premier album solo Beautiful Disguise sous le bras, Jason fait son expérience en accompagnant de nombreux artistes tant sur la scène (tournées américaines, européennes, canadiennes et québécoises) que lors de prestations à la radio et à la télé. D’Isabelle Boulay à Roch Voisine, mais aussi France d’Amour, Veronic Dicaire, Luce Dufault, Amanda Marshall, The McGarrigle Sisters, Penny Lang, Luba et Richard Séguin, tous ont reconnu en Jason un musicien remarquable. Compositeur respecté, il a écrit et enregistré avec plusieurs d’entre eux. Il signe l’album What You Mean to Me de l’interprète Denise Murray, qui se classe parmi le top vingt des meilleurs albums country. Jason a travaillé sur plusieurs albums certifiés or, platine et diamant. Quelques honneurs viennent agrémenter son parcours artistique: lauréat de 3 prix Felix remis par l’Adisq, et nominé aux Prix Juno, Jason apprécie à leur juste valeur ces marques de confiance et d’affection de la part de l’industrie mais surtout du public.
